Client & Background

Our client is an international company developing a centralized B2B marketplace to streamline parts procurement for automotive trade businesses, including garages, mechanics, and fleet providers. The platform replaces traditionally fragmented, manual workflows with a seamless digital experience.

Trade buyers previously struggled with slow parts sourcing, scattered communication, complex payments, and a lack of real-time quote comparison, leading to delays and lower workshop productivity. To fix this, the client partnered with Emerline to build a greenfield, scalable solution from the ground up, specifically tailored to the automotive aftermarket.

The client envisioned a scalable B2B platform offering trade buyers real-time pricing, instant ordering, and full visibility over deliveries and returns, backed by simple user management and smooth supplier integration.

Challenges

Manual and time-consuming parts procurement

Garages and trade buyers rely on phone calls, visits, and fragmented systems to source parts, leading to delays, human errors, and significant time spent checking availability and pricing across multiple suppliers.

Lack of real-time quote comparison

Without a centralized system, quotes arrive through phone, email, or SMS without an easy way to compare them side-by-side, resulting in overpaying and missed opportunities for faster delivery.

Limited visibility into orders and deliveries

Tracking order status, dispatch, and delivery times is manual and unclear, creating uncertainty in workshop planning and leading to idle technician hours.

Fragmented payment and invoicing processes

Handling payments and invoicing outside the procurement workflow causes reconciliation issues, missing documentation, and accounting delays when dealing with multiple vendors.

No centralized marketplace for trade-only buying

Public or retail-focused platforms prevent trade users from accessing consistent B2B pricing, wholesale discounts, and dedicated service levels.

Complicated return handling and claims

Managing incorrect or damaged parts requires manual supplier negotiations without a streamlined process to track claims or receive timely replacements and refunds.

Methodology

The project was executed using a tailored Agile Scrum methodology with iterative delivery and continuous cross-functional collaboration. Starting from an MVP and expanding into a full-scale marketplace, the team developed the greenfield platform from the ground up without disrupting ongoing business planning.

  • Functional analysis and architecture planning. We conducted business and domain analysis to map user workflows, designing modular components with clear boundaries for catalog search, quoting, orders, payments, logistics, and account management.
  • Target architecture and delivery strategy. We designed a modular monolith using PHP Laravel, establishing an API-first approach, containerized Docker environments, normalized data models, and automated CI/CD pipelines to ensure scalable, security-first development.
  • Iterative development and feature delivery. Development progressed in phased iterations - from core catalog ingestion and search, to real-time quoting, checkout, and payments, through to platform optimization, mobile support, and advanced return management.
  • Service integration and extensibility. We integrated key third-party services (suppliers, payment gateways, shipping platforms, and notifications) via dedicated modular adapters, using a shared backend to ensure cross-platform consistency for web and mobile.
  • Testing, deployment and phased rollout. Automated unit, integration, and E2E testing were embedded into CI/CD pipelines alongside staging validation, enabling a controlled rollout to early adopters, team onboarding, and continuous monitoring for smooth operational scaling.

Solution

The project delivered a centralized, trade-only B2B marketplace built on PHP Laravel specifically for the automotive aftermarket. Replacing fragmented, manual workflows with a unified system for quoting, ordering, payments, delivery, and returns, the platform connects buyers and suppliers to eliminate operational delays and support scalable, long-term growth.

From MVP to full-scale platform

We built the platform entirely from the ground up, starting with a minimal viable product (MVP) designed to fix common problems in automotive parts procurement for trade buyers. Over time, it grew into a full B2B marketplace serving garages, bodyshops, fleet service providers, and suppliers. Building from scratch allowed us to focus on the real needs of trade users and make improvements quickly based on their feedback.

From MVP to full-scale platform

Unified web and mobile application

To meet the demands of fast-moving trade businesses, the platform was delivered as both a web and mobile application. Whether in the workshop, on the road, or at the parts counter, users can access the full range of features — quoting, ordering, tracking, and more — from any device. This seamless cross-platform experience empowers garages, mobile mechanics, and suppliers to manage their parts procurement in real time, stay productive wherever they are, and keep jobs moving without delay.

Centralized configuration and standardization

Unified principles for configuration management, API standards, error handling, and environment setup were implemented across all components. This ensured consistent system behavior and simplified maintenance across environments and deployment stages.

Centralized configuration and standardization

Modular, domain-driven architecture

The platform was developed using a modular design within a powerful PHP Laravel framework. Key business functions like quoting, ordering, payments, delivery tracking, returns, and user management are separated into distinct modules. This clear structure makes the system easier to maintain, allows teams to work on different areas in parallel, and supports future growth by isolating business logic, minimizing interdependencies, and allowing each module to evolve and scale on its own.

Modular, domain-driven architecture

Enhanced development efficiency and code quality

Developed with agile practices, modular architecture, and TDD, the platform enabled parallel feature development and seamless continuous integration. High automated test coverage ensured system stability and minimized regression risks, significantly accelerating the delivery cycle while maintaining high software quality as the platform scaled.

Technologies

The platform is developed from scratch using a modern technology stack centered around PHP 8.3 and the Laravel framework. This greenfield approach enables clean architecture, scalable services, and streamlined development practices across both backend and frontend components.
