Challenge
Our client, a fragrance and decor manufacturing company based in the United States, faced the task of integrating their legacy ERP system with Magento. The complexity of the challenge stemmed from the existence of multiple subsystems within their operations that also required integration to streamline their processes effectively.
Solution Description
Collaborating closely with the client’s system engineers, we explored various integration approaches and recommended a solution based on our previous successful implementation for a company with a similar operational structure. Although automated integration processes are available, this integration case necessitated manual data transfer and adjustments.
Development Process
The discovery phase
During the discovery phase, we conducted workshops with the client team to define all processes, data adjustments, and requirements for future implementation. This collaborative approach ensured that all stakeholders were aligned on the project scope and objectives. Additionally, checkpoints were established during the development phase to review and validate each integration process, ensuring that they met the specified requirements and goals.
Technologies used
To facilitate integration, we utilized a middleware API Service Bus called Mulesoft. The selection of this middleware was informed by technical considerations and the expertise of the client's system engineers, minimizing the need for additional resources for development and support. By employing Mulesoft, we were able to leverage the default API services of both platforms with minimal modifications, as data mapping and restructuring were executed at the API service bus level.
Team description
Three dedicated personnel were allocated to this task, which typically required more than a day to complete the collection, processing, and uploading of information. The integration team consisted of one Magento solution architect, two Magento back-end developers, and a business analyst. From the client side, one system engineer and two individuals responsible for manual integration tasks were involved.
The entire process, from initial discovery to implementation, spanned approximately three months.
Results
Our approach helped the customer ensure significant cost reductions in data processing. The integration enabled more frequent synchronization processes, facilitating improved management of the following crucial aspects:
- Customers
- Orders
- Inventory
- RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization).
Additionally, the new approach resulted in cost savings for future integrations.
Post-launch support ensured the seamless operation of the system, with new feature implementations incorporated as required. Ultimately, the entire process was automated, allowing the client's system engineer to support the workflow with minimal disruption.
